BGC is the Qualified Professional for hydrogeology at the Kootenay West Mine (KWM), a planned surface gypsum mine situated in karstic terrain in southeastern BC. BGC has provided technical guidance to CertainTeed through the mine permitting process and is now in construction. BGC has completed hydrogeological field investigations to better understand groundwater flow and the potential influence of karst, geochemical assessments of the overburden and bedrock, numerical and analytical groundwater flow modelling, and surface water quality modelling. Ongoing support by BGC focuses on refining the site-wide conceptual hydrogeologic model, preparation of annual compliance groundwater monitoring reports, and enhancements to the mine’s groundwater monitoring network.
