Vincenzo Coia
Senior Data Scientist
Vincenzo is a statistical data scientist specializing in evaluating uncertainty and dependence modelling, with a focus on extremes in the earth sciences. He completed his Ph.D. in Statistics at The University of British Columbia in 2017, estimating extreme flow quantiles using vine copulas. As a senior data scientist at BGC Engineering, Vincenzo leads several research and development projects and applies them to client projects and presents his work across the company as well as at conferences. His project work focusses on hydrologic and climate-adjusted modelling, such as flood frequency analysis and water balance analysis. Vincenzo is proficient in using R for reproducible analyses and develops tools (R packages) to facilitate in these analyses. Vincenzo was previously an Assistant Professor of Teaching at The University of British Columbia until 2022, where he trained students in data science and statistical modelling.
