Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Renata Wood, M.Sc., P.Eng. (BC, AB), is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with over 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering as both a consultant and in academia working on mining and infrastructure projects. She has expertise in tailings dam design and has worked on all phases of projects from conceptual design and siting studies to site investigation and laboratory testing programs, design, construction supervision and support, and planning and designing for closure. The sites she has been involved with are in diverse geological settings including tropical residual soils, pre-sheared glacial sediments, and permafrost in high and low seismicity areas. Her infrastructure work has included the design of foundations for buildings, pipelines, and bridges, the design of retaining structures, and ground improvement. Renata joined BGC in 2020, returning to consulting after a few years spent teaching soil mechanics and geotechnical courses which contributed to an increased passion for getting the mechanics right and adopting a practical approach to problem-solving.
