Pipelines SEMINARS
Pipeline Geohazard Management Seminars
Pipeline project managers and operators are invited to join us for a one-day educational seminar on Pipeline Geohazard Management. BGC will be hosting two Seminars this March in Houston and Pittsburgh.
The diverse geography and topography of the US presents various engineering challenges for pipeline routes transporting gas and liquid products. During this seminar we will highlight the importance of correct identification and appropriate management of geohazards and their potential risks of pipeline failure. Drawing from BGC’s experience managing geohazards on over 200,000 miles of operating pipeline in North America, for new and mid-sized operators to the largest and most established transmission companies, we will characterize the effects of geohazards such as landslides and river erosion on the design and operation of pipelines. This introductory seminar is intended for pipeline project managers and operators who are responsible for managing geohazards affecting the route selection, design, and operation of pipelines.
Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments included.
Sessions include 8 Professional Development hours.

Pipelines SEMINARS
Use of Inertial Measurement Unit Data in Pipeline Geohazard Characterization Seminar
Pipeline integrity staff are invited to join us for a half-day educational seminar in Pittsburgh, PA on March 10th. Pipeline operators typically include inertial measurement units (IMU) on In-Line Inspection (ILI) tool runs to obtain pipeline geometry information and identify locations of anomalous bending strain. Bending strain reports are a common ILI tool run deliverable that provide plots of vendor-identified anomalous “bending strain features.” When combined with lidar, lidar change detection, aerial imagery, and/or bathymetry, geotechnical and structural subject matter experts (SMEs) can assess whether the strain signature is consistent with geohazard impact or induced by other external forces. Additionally, raw IMU data can be utilized to characterize complex slide movement and is useful for calibrating finite element analysis for pipeline strain assessments.
Drawing from our experience using IMU to help manage geohazards on operating pipelines across North America, BGC will explain how IMU data can be used both as a screening and detailed assessment tool in the evaluation of geohazard impact on pipelines as well as explain the limitations of the data. This seminar is intended for pipeline integrity staff who are responsible for managing geohazards affecting operating pipelines.
Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments included.
Sessions include 4 Professional Development hours.
