The Role

BGC is seeking a junior to intermediate level Geotechnical Engineer with a fundamental understanding and interest in soil mechanics; mining earthworks (e.g. tailings dam) design / mine waste management, and/or construction services to join our team in Vancouver, Kamloops, Edmonton, or Calgary.

Example project types that Junior to Intermediate Geotechnical Engineers may work on:

  • Geotechnical investigations, geotechnical design, or construction monitoring (CQC/CQA) for mine infrastructure such as tailings facilities, water management structures, access roads, and building foundations. On-going projects are located in Canada, US, Chile, and the Dominican Republic.
  • Mine reclamation activities, particularly in northern regions and Alberta’s oil-sands, which may include constructed wetlands, soft tailings capping, and alternative tailings management technologies.

Field rotations (2 – 3 weeks) or site visits will be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Applied Science or Engineering
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, fundamental knowledge of geotechnical design, hydrology & hydrogeology, and engineering geology
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Preference for candidates with a relevant post-graduate degree
