Geophysics for engineering and the environment

BGC provides in-house services for engineering geophysics and environmental geophysics. This provides our clients with the information they need to build challenging and ambitious projects.

Geophysical surveys are an efficient, cost-effective, and non-intrusive method of collecting high-density subsurface data. They allow for the optimization of more costly programs such as drilling or excavation by providing planners with geological information as well as potential targets for further investigation (e.g., mapping of contaminate plumes). 

Our approach to maximizing subsurface information involves supporting the geophysical results with co-located subsurface information (e.g., lithology logs, geotechnical data, and water and soil chemistry measurements). We use all of the data available to create an integrated 3D site model, which can be used to gain a comprehensive understanding of site conditions and help identify data gaps and potential risks. Alternatively, our data can be provided in a variety of data formats so it can be easily utilized by drafting and GIS teams.

We pride ourselves on quality and developing innovative approaches, which means we are continually updating technology and methods for field data acquisition, data processing, and reporting deliverables. Most recently we have developed expertise in towed-transient EM (tTEM) and passive seismic methods (including HVSR), providing comprehensive 3D subsurface characterization of sites for a fraction of the effort required by traditional geophysical methods. Our adherence to quality in the provision of geophysical services helps BGC maintain its reputation as a global leader in solving some of the world’s most critical applied earth science challenges.
