Junior and Summer Intern Opportunities

 

Every year BGC looks for talented, motivated individuals to fill the roles of Junior or Summer Intern Engineers and Geoscientists. We begin recruiting for summer positions each December and ask that all candidates apply through our online portal before the end of January. Our application review process begins in January, and we attempt to make hiring decisions and respond to all candidates by the end of March with a decision on their application.

Work Opportunities for Junior and Summer Interns

 

Positions are typically based out of a BGC office in Vancouver, Kamloops, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Halifax, Fredericton, Denver, or Santiago.  Assignments may involve fieldwork situated throughout North America and the world.

Skills and experience that are considered highly relevant include:

  • Engineering Geology
  • Civil/Geotechnical Engineering

Projects that Junior Engineers and Students may work on include:

  • Investigations at mine sites for the design of mining works including: open pits, underground excavations, tailings facilities, access roads, and building foundations. On-going projects are located in Alaska, the Dominican Republic, Chile, and Canada.
  • Mine reclamation activities, particularly in Alberta’s oil-sands, which may include constructed wetlands, soft tailings capping, and alternative tailings management technologies.
  • Working with various independent power producers to design micro-hydro projects in British Columbia, including geotechnical and geo-hazard investigations and reporting.
  • Investigations for pipeline geohazards including route assessments, field investigations, inspections of operating lines, and air photo interpretations.
